Auréolé par la fantastique image de l'iconique Type E dans les années 60, Jaguar dévoile en septembre 1975, sa nouvelle Grand Tourisme. Il s'agit du Coupé XJ-S équipé du V12 de 5,3 litres développant 285 chevaux. Ce Coupé charmeur privilégie équilibre et confort, secondé par un silence de fonctionnement appréciable au quotidien et sur longs trajets, ainsi qu'un équipement de série généreux. En 1983, la XJ-S adopte un nouveau moteur: le six cylindres de 3,6 l développant 221 ch qui permet une offre tarifaire plus alléchante destinée à accroître les ventes. Pour l'occasion, les Jaguar XJ-S 3,6 litres héritent de jantes alu d'un dessin nouveau et d'un bossage de capot. En 1987, la motorisation 3,6 litres est également disponible avec une boîte automatique ZF à 4 rapports. L'équipement est encore enrichi avec les rétroviseurs chauffants, lave-phares chauffants, sièges chauffants avec réglage électrique du support lombaire... Puis, en 1988, Jaguar installe un ABS de série. Datant de 1990, notre XJ-S est équipé d'une boîte automatique et possède toutes les caractéristiques en rapport avec son millésime. Crédité de 151 000 km au compteur, ce modèle dans son jus, se présente extérieurement en bon état. A l'intérieur, la sellerie beige possède une belle patine, tout comme les moquettes qui sont également très bien conservées. On notera que le ciel de toit a été refait récemment. Un essai routier nous a permis de constater son très bon fonctionnement mécanique. Aujourd'hui la XJ-S retrouve auprès des collectionneurs une véritable cote d'amour parfaitement légitime. Symbolique du style des années 70, 80 revenant aujourd'hui à la mode, cette XJ-S est présentée à une estimation particulièrement attractive, et offre un rapport prix/prestation incomparable, définitivement une affaire à ne pas laisser passer! Suitable for easy daily use, it was capable of swift progress in great silence which made for relaxing long journeys. In 1983 a 3.6 litre, 221 bhp, six cylinder engine was added to the range, with lower buying price and maintenance costs making the model accessible to a wider market. The 3.6 litre version had a new design of alloy wheels and a power bulge on the bonnet. In 1987 a ZF 4-speed automatic gearbox was made available for the 6 cylinder model and the equipment was further enriched by heated mirrors, heated headlight washers and heated seats with electrical adjustment of the lumbar support. In 1988 ABS became standard equipment. Our XJ-S, built in 1990, has an automatic gearbox and all the improvements incorporated by that model-year. With 151 000 km on the odometer, the car is in well preserved original condition, both inside and out. External appearance is good, the beige leather upholstery has a nice patina and the carpets are also well preserved. A new headlining has been fitted recently. A road test enabled us to check that the mechanical elements function correctly. After a period when it was forgotten and undervalued, the XJ-S is now enjoying a new surge of interest with enthusiasts.
