1990 Peugeot 205 GTi Mi16 Lot Number 110 Registration H699 CJU Chassis Number VF320CK2224003671 Engine Number 1FS2Z763632 Odometer reading 6,000 miles Estimate £9,000 - £11,000 Result Sold - £7,280 Print details Send this to a friend When the Peugeot 205 GTi was launched in 1984, it wasn't the first hot hatch on the block. It was following in the footsteps of the equally-legendary Volkswagen Golf GTi, while competition was also in development from Renault with its 5 GT Turbo, Ford Fiesta XR2 and Escort XR3i. Early 205 GTi's had a mere 105hp which was then upped with the launch of the 205 GTi 1.9 litre but that was basically it in terms of the evolution of the 205 GTi. Some bright spark, however, noted that the engine in the 405 Mi16 boasted 160hp and began to put two and two together. It is an easy swap if you know what you are doing and whilst values of hot 1.9 205 GTi's are soaring, the lesser 1.6-litre is still relatively attainable and so it is these that are sought-after for modification. The weight has not really changed so the pick-up is still instant but now simply explodes towards the redline. This example has undergone extensive restoration in recent years. Often road-weary today, a total refresh was well deserved. With the engine out, a full repaint was undertaken. The 405 unit was then rebuilt, installed and run-in. It has now passed the 6,000 mile mark since all works were completed. The interior has been refurbished and presents in good order throughout. Complete with a history file and an MoT test certificate valid until February, 2018; this is the greatest GTi that never was.
