The Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo Veloce (GTV) designed by Enrico Fumia at Pininfarina was planned to re-establish the sporty coupé tradition of Alfa Romeo for the 1990s. After the Fiat CEO accepted the design, Alfa Romeo Centro Stile was responsible for the completion of the detail work and also for the design of the interiors, as Pininfarina's proposal was not accepted. A typical Italian design, low-slung, wedge-shaped with a low nose and high kicked up tail or 'Kamm tail' gave improved aerodynamics and, at its launch, many journalists commented that Alfa had improved the overall build quality considerably and that it came very close to equaling its German rivals. The GTV was indeed favourably received by the written press, winning awards such as Autocar Magazine's '1995 Car of the Year', Car Magazine's 'Best Designed Car' and in 1995 was awarded 'The World's most Beautiful Automobile' award. It is not often that we come across a car that despite being over 17 years old, genuinely feels like new. From the door shuts to the workings of the electric switches and the effortless start-up when the key is turned and all of this on an Alfa Romeo, not known for their ability to withstand the rigours of time. This particular example, in gleaming Alfa Romeo red with unmarked sports trim, is the Twin Spark GTV coupé and proudly displays all of the Pininfarina design lines impeccably. Offered with the optional extra sunroof which has no signs of wear and having covered just 7,500 miles since new, this example is surely a future collectors dream. Having been owned for most of its life by a lady in Hampshire, this 2.0 Litre Twin Spark model saw only infrequent use whilst remaining in a heated garage, the female owner serviced the car regularly as one should however, unfortunately upon her passing, the car had no further use and therefore remained garaged in the warm for a few further years. Once the owner of the local MoT test station learnt that the car that he had once seen annually was in need of a new home and having fondly remembered it, he decided to purchase it from the estate for weekend driving and this wonderful example was again on the road. However due to the nature of his work and having a daily driver the miles never racked up on the GTV and thus is still in such wonderful order today. Supplied with countless MoT test certificates to prove mileage, service receipts including details of the cam belt change which is key on these models, the original bill of sale and a nice private GTV number plate which is sold with the car, we would struggle to find a more appropriate future classic and with provenance, low mileage and in fantastic condition, it is already gaining admiring glances.
