1998 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Armoured Touring Limousine Coachwork by H J Mulliner, Park Ward Ltd Chassis no. SCAZW19C4WCX80253 •Rare and exclusive extended-wheelbase limousine •Armoured coachwork •Dismantled condition •Requires restoration and re-assembly Fußnoten Typically, Rolls-Royce in so far as it represented evolution rather than revolution, the Silver Spirit and long-wheelbase Silver Spur were based on the preceding Silver Shadow II, to which they bore a distinct family resemblance, and were introduced in 1980. By now all cars, regardless of final destination, came with a Bosch fuel-injected V8 engine in three-way catalysed 'California' specification capable of meeting all current emissions targets. The long-wheelbase Silver Spur turned out to be a major success for Rolls-Royce, and by 1985 accounted for almost the same number of sales as the shorter Silver Spirit despite being around 20% more expensive. The Spirit/Spur had gained anti-lock brakes as standard equipment by the time the further-improved Series II arrived in 1990, the principal other advance being electronically controlled adaptive suspension damping. 24" longer than the standard saloon, Rolls-Royce's Touring Limousine was introduced on the Silver Spur II platform in 1982 and continued on the Silver Spur III when this model was launched in 1993. With the Series III's arrival, Rolls-Royce had reached the ultimate development of its long-running 6.7-litre V8 engine, which now featured completely revised cylinder heads, a strengthened block, and an improved management system. The most obvious changes, though, were inside the cabin where the inclusion of driver and passenger air bags had necessitated a wholesale revision. What would turn out to be the final version of the Silver Sprit/Spur was introduced late in 1995 for the 1996 model year, although these cars were not designated 'Series IV'. Major changes included the introduction of a Garrett turbocharger and the adoption of a Zytec engine management system, replacing the previous Bosch. Also new were integrated front and rear bumpers and 16" wheels. As of 1997, the long wheelbase became standard, with limousine models offered in extra-long only. Production ceased at the end of the 1997 model year, although cars continued to be produced through 2000 to use up bodies and parts remaining in stock. Finished in grey with beige interior, this Silver Spur Armoured Touring Limousine is offered in dismantled condition and will require extensive work to get it running. The car is offered with Equatorial Guinea registration papers and customs document. VAT, Car Tax and Customs Duty at the standard rates will be payable on this Lot if the car remains in Switzerland. Bonhams is the guarantor of the customs duties and taxes clearance: consequently, this motor car cannot be released to the buyer or his transporter immediately after the sale.
