Unveiled at the March 1989 Geneva Motor Show, the new Mercedes-Benz R129-series SL range was beautifully engineered. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell, its sophisticated all-round independent suspension (double-wishbone front / five-link rear) was augmented by a host of active and passive safety features including: electronic stability control, ventilated ABS disc brakes, adaptive-damping shock absorbers, front airbags and an integral rollover bar that deployed in less than a third of a second if the car ever sensed an impending flip. Suitably cosseting, the convertible's impeccably built cabin was a fully automated power hood and featured such advancements as memory seats, electric windows/mirrors and an adjustable steering column. Yet lurking beneath all the luxury and refinement was a performance orientated sports car. On offer today is a Mercedes-Benz SL320, finished in brilliant silver with a contrasting black leather interior. The original owner passed on the car to her daughter before it arriving with the vendor, two family owners, you could say. Some general maintenance has taken place recently including new springs and new Dunlop SP9000's all round, the overall effect is of an extremely well presented and well cared for example. Supplied also is a panoramic hard-top in equally fine condition as is the AMG body-kit and wheels. Also with this car is a bound leather file containing the factory owners pack, a series of bills and invoices, an MoT test certificate valid until April, 2013 together with a fully stamped-up Mercedes-Benz main agent/specialist service history. Representing superb value for money, this highly usable modern day sports car is already regarded as a design classic.
