Coniferous wood parade walking stick, 35.25 in., with knob-style handle, 1.5 in. diameter. Conceals a 39-star American flag, 13 x 15 in., wrapped around a thin pole for insertion into the cane's handle. Recessed sleeve at top of cane, allowing for display of flag during parades or other patriotic celebrations. The 39th state admitted to the Union was North Dakota (November 2, 1889), but South Dakota was added the same day, Montana six days later, Washington on November 11, and Idaho on July 3, 1890. Consequently, the new flag, issued July 4, 1890, had 43 stars, and the 39-star model never officially existed. Condition: Not examined outside frame. Flag with brown spotting/staining at fly end.
