Worsted wool, 38 x 58.5 in., machine-sewn, with 44 double-applique stars arranged in horizontal rows of 8/7/7/7/7/8, and two brass grommets on the hoist. Circa 1890-1896, as Wyoming became the 44th state on July 10, 1890, and Utah the 46th state on January 4, 1896. Accompanied by a hand-written note from a previous owner stating the flag was given to her father by a man who had served aboard the battleship Maine in 1898, though this story cannot be confirmed. Condition: Several small scattered holes. Larger holes in the upper fly area of the canton and the middle red stripe. Separation at fly side of lowest red stripe.
