Provenance: Zoe Lucy Sherrard Alatau Atkinson. (Ownership signature dated Honolulu, April 6th 1895). 5. Honolulu Star-Bulletin Cook Book of Tested Recipes. Honolulu: Honolulu Star-Bulletin, [1924]. 56 pp. 8vo. Stapled original printed wrappers. Soiled wrappers, rusted staples, last leaves detaching from bottom staple, else near fine. While many of these dishes are common, others are adapted to local fair such as mashed kalo, "papaya as a vegetable" or the improbable "Soup de Corbeaux" which calls for two young mynah birds to be roasted, then pounded "flesh and bones" in a mortar to make a paste to be served on toast. The Hawaiian Cookbook was first published in 1879 though Forbes has not found one, they noted only one copy of the second edition, and note that "all editions are now rare.". Forbes 3405 (for the second edition).
