8 item archive including signed family material, copies of several of Hartmann's publications, and a collection of 8 issues of the Sadakichi Hartmann Newsletter from the 1970s, published by the University of California, Riverside. Sadakichi Hartmann was a Japanese-German-American writer, poet, and photography critic. He was an early part of the modernist movement, associated with Walt Whitman, Ezra Pound, Alfred Stieglitz and others. Includes: Passport to Immortality, Beaumont, CA: 1927, 32 pp., soft cover. Author's Edition. Seven Short Stories , Beaumont, CA: 1930, 23 pp., soft cover, Author's Edition.Signed by Sadakichi hartmann in black fountain ink on title page, assumed this was his son Robert Hartmann's copy as he signed it in black ink dated May 20, 1931 on the front cover and on the rear cover in February 1934. Probably given from father to son. Sadakichi Hartmann My Rubaiyat , San Francisco: 1916. 21 pp. Black and white frontispiece portrait of Hartmann. Soft cover, Third revised edition. Our Last Walk Together , In Memoriam Marigold Hartmann, February 3, 1914-May 24, 1921. Very scarce. Limited to 60 copies. Tipped on b&w photograph of Marigold on double paper mat on front cover. Sadakichi Hartmann's memorial to his recently deceased daughter. Six page letter from Rachel G. Cornish, Marigold's first grade teacher, to Mrs. Hartmann, sending rememberances. Handwritten postcard from Sadakichi Hartmann to his son Robert, cancelled stamp states October 25, 1940. In black ink: Robert hartmann, P.O. Box 2 Banning California. (message side): Detroit Mich Friday October 25, 1940, of course you may reside at "Catclaw Siding" and keep it dust free.
