Ray was a leading golf figure of the early 1900's, winning the Open Championship, the U.S. Open and serving as the inaugural Ryder Cup Captain. Ray signed the book in 1943, the year of his death. The author was well-qualified to pen a golf instruction book, as she once held both the British Ladies Amateur Championship and the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship simultaneously. The careful positioning of the photographs (clips from motion pictures) within the book, act as a unique swing sequence "flicker" feature and was the first moving picture book of its kind.
