GERMAN, 19TH CENTURY
A 1¾-inch miniature globe German, 19th century unsigned [but probably by MPS], made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, with ungraduated equatorial, tropics and ecliptic, the continents coloured yellow, pink and green, showing some rivers, towns and islands, Australia named New Holland, Tasmania shown as an island, New Zealand shown but no Antarctic land depicted, Californea [sic] shown as a peninsula; an 8mm dent and stain to Pacific Ocean, in a modern carboard box [with:] A 13-inch long letter-opener for THE EASTERN TELEGRAPH COMPANY, LIMITED, THE EASTERN, EXTENSION TELEGRAPH COMPANY, LIMITED, 50 & 11 OLD BROAD STREET, LONDON, E.C. , showing partial world-map over two sides with telegraph cables shown in red, undated [but 1888], calendar to reverse. 1¾in.
