A 14ct. GOLD HUNTING CASED RUSSIAN IMPERIAL PRESENTATION POCKET WATCH circa 1905. white enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer Arabic five minutes, subsidiary seconds, gold hour and minute hands, nickel finished movement jewelled to the third and with bimetallic compensation balance, gold cuvette with Russian inscription, engine turned case, the front cover with the Imperial Russian arms highlighted in black and blue enamel, the inside of the front cover inscribed Presented by H.I.M. Empress Marie of Russia To H. Payne, Sandringham Aug. 16th 1910, diameter 52mm, with a 9ct. gold watch chain and vesta case. Harry Payne 1875-1960 joined the Royal household as a footman before joining the Metropolitan Police in 1896. He was seconded to Royal protection and when Edward VII bought his first car he became the chauffeur whilst still retaining his police rank. After the King's death in 1910, he continued as chauffer to Queen Alexandra after his retirement from the police force in 1921 and until her death in 1925.
