According to the Winchester firearms research, the serial number was applied March 26, 1894. It is a 10 gauge with an original 20" barrel shipped on January 14, 1895. As with all Winchester records, recipient is not noted but this gun was used by the Adam's Express Company, competitor to Well's Fargo & Railway Express. Left side of frame is stamped, "Adam's Ex. Co." and number "18" (rack number). Lower tang is stamped with Winchester information, right side of stock is stamped "18" and serial number is on bottom of frame. Gun is all original, riot configuration, as shipped. Metal is basically a brown patina with sharp edges, near perfect screws. Walnut stocks are original and show lots of wear with age stress, cracks, some chipping and no original varnish. Perfect action. Front sight bead hole is present but no bead. Steel checkered shotgun buttplate. Very good to excellent bore with some minor residue. Most of the 20" Model 1887 model shotguns were cut-downs performed later. This shotgun was built at the factory as an Express gun. Real history was made during the latter part of the 19th century, guarding railroads and stagecoaches alike. A truly iconic item of authentic Western memorabilia.
