A BÖTTGER BEAKER AND COVER ( DECKELPOKAL ) CIRCA 1723-28, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S B. TO BOTH Of tapering form, painted with vignettes of a naval engagement before a mountainous coastline and a harbour scene with three Oriental figures in conversation observed by another figure behind a column, with further figures of a gentleman and a lady with a fan and merchants and porters by a shore, before a tall ship and junk in the distance, within shaped quatrefoil cartouches edged with gilding and enclosing gold lustre panels issuing purple and iron-red scrolls, between Gitterwerk , the lower part moulded with a band of stiff acanthus, enriched in gilding above a stepped foot, the cover with a gilt knop finial flanked by harbour scenes within a raised roundels raditaing a further band of acanthus above gilt scrolls and purple and iron-red scrolling foliage (shallow chip and very minor chipping to flange of cover, small areas of wear to gilding of cover and rim of beaker) 6 in. (15.2 cm.) high
