A BÖTTGER BLACK GLAZED RED STONEWARE BALUSTER OCTAGONAL VASE AND COVER CIRCA 1710-12 Modelled by Johann Jacob Irminger with a waisted flared neck, sloping shoulder and bulbous lower part, glazed to simulate Oriental lacquer and decorated in gilding and a cold colour, the angles gilt with husks between gilt scroll borders and reddish bronzed cold colour bands, the shoulder with flowerheads at the angles above a cold colour band and paired gilt-edged cold colour foliage at the angles, the lower part with similar pendant gilt foliage and scroll borders, on a flared octagonal foot, the underside gilt, the octagonal cover with a knop finial (firing crack to foot filled, probably at time of decoration, areas of slight wear) 5¾ in. (14.7 cm.) high
