A BÖTTGER (KPM) GILT-METAL-MOUNTED CHINOISERIE TEAPOT AND A COVER CIRCA 1723-25, BLUE .K.P.M. CROSSED SWORDS MARK AND GILT 52. Of squat baluster form with a loop handle, each side painted in the workshop of J.G. Höroldt with Orientals on terraces, one scene with a lady and a negro attendant holding a folded parasol, each within shaped quatrefoil Böttger -lustre cartouches edged with gilt scrolls and iron-red and pale-brown foliage scrolls, the spout with a band of up-turned leaves, flanked by flowering branches, the mask terminal enriched in gilding, the domed cover with a bird on a prunus branch issuing from rockwork, between double red line and gilt band borders, gilt knop finial and chain attachment (slight wear to terminal of handle and rim of cover, further minute wear, both with two restored rim chips, teapot spout an 18th century replacement, scratches to scenes, area of flaking to gilt band border, cover with minute chip to finial tip) 4 11/16 in.
