A Builder's Style Model Of The H.M.S. Sans Pareil Anonymous; British, 19th century A very fine scale model of this British dreadnought of 1889. The hull of the model is built up in wood lifts which has been shaped, faired and sanded. The topsides of the model is painted black and white with a red bottom and a white waterline. The topsides are fitted with port holes, at the stem is some ancanthus scroll work, and at the transom is decorated with a carved pennant and an ancanthus badge. The deck of the model is laid with paper and the deck planking is drawn in india in on the paper. The model is fitted with numerous details including brass anchors and anchor davits, capstan, anchor chain, deck railings, ventilators, splash rail, forward main turret with double 16¼ inch guns, bridge binnacle, forward mast, double funnels, gangways, ship's boats on davits, canopy frames amidships, main mast with lifting tackle and crow's nests, launches and gigs mounted amidships aft of main mast, docking bridge, searchlight, a single 10 in. gun aft, 12 - 6in. guns, machin guns, rudder and numerous other details. The model is mounted on a pair of turned brass pedestals and displayed in a glass case with an oak framed base and frame. The base of the case is carved with a rope work motif along the bottom. On the inner base of the case is hand lettered H.M.S. "SANS-PAREIL". . Along with the model is a complete set of plans for the ship. 57¾ x 21 x 30¼ in.(46.7 x 53.3 x 76.8 cm.) cased dimensions.
