A CASED PAIR OF FRENCH 50-BORE PERCUSSION TARGET PISTOLS BY DEVISME A PARIS, NO. 3002, CIRCA 1850 With three-stage partly fluted reblued octagonal sighted barrels each rifled with ten grooves, signed in silver, and decorated at the muzzle and breech with silver-inlaid lines and foliage, breeches engraved with rococo ornament and flowerheads, tangs en suite and numbered 1 and 2 in silver, signed flat locks each with stepped tail and engraved en suite with the breeches, ebony half-stocks each carved with foliated strapwork on the fore-end and fluted butt (one cracked), and engraved iron mounts including shaped pommels each with baluster tip (iron parts polished bright overall): in original rosewood-veneered case lined in blue velvet with full accessories including powder ladle and engraved bullet mould each stamped with the maker's name, the lid (cracked) stamped in gilt letters 'Devisme Arquebusier Bréveté 26 Boulevart des Italiens', the exterior with cusped brass escutcheon engraved later with the crowned monogram of the Emperor Napoleon III 16in.
