A Charles II ebony and gilt-metal mounted early architectural table timepiece Ahasuerus Fromanteel Londini Fecit; circa 1665 The case on adjustable gilt-metal ball feet supporting the base with drawer to the front, glazed front door with hidden spring-loaded catch accessed only by opening the drawer, the side panels and rear door each operating on a similar hidden-loaded catch system, slender gilt-metal Corinthian columns supporting the entablature with a ribbon-tied gilt-metal draped mount to the front beneath the broken arched pediment flanked by four gilt-metal flambeau urn finials cast with foliage and marks, a central larger gilt-metal flambeau urn finial now on a later pedestal with carved volutes and gilt-metal satire marks, the 8 in. sq. gilt-brass dial with a narrow silver-faced Roman chapter ring with blued steel hands, the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, winged cherub spandrels, latches to the four dial feet to secure the movement, the brass plates with broken arch tops and curved base, square brass pillars with the lower pair rivotted to the backplate and latched to the front, the upper pair latched at the frontplate and secured with steel screws in the backplate, re-built verge escapement, re-built bolt-and-shutter maintaining power, large spring barrel with early flanged caps, "fat-style" fusee, the backplate signed Ahasuerus Fromanteel Londini Fecit 26 ins.
