A Charles X brass-mounted mahogany striking eight day mantel regulator with mechanical orerry Giteau, Paris. Circa 1825 The stepped and moulded flat top case with rectangular brass-lined glazed side panels, conforming front panel and raised on gilt-brass feet and surmounted by an orrery driven from a vertically mounted pinion from the time-side barrel and incorporating an annual calendar with silvered chapter ring and year aperture for 1800-1899, silvered subsidiary dials for twenty-four hours and days of the week, the orrery with gilt-brass sun, revolving inner planets of Venus and Mercury, the Earth with twelve coloured paper gores and revolving on its own tilted axis with silvered moon painted for night and day, the white enamel Roman dial with inner track divided for seconds and signed Giteau/Palais Royal N.129 à Paris , the twin barrels movement with dead beat pinwheel escapement mounted on the back plate and countwheel strike on bell; gridiron pendulum 26½ in. (67.5 cm.) high
