A COLLECTION OF FOURTEEN ILLUMINATED OR DECORATED MANUSCRIPT LEAVES ON VELLUM, 12th to 15th centuries, comprising: a part bifolium recovered from a binding, [northern Europe, 12th century], approximately 200 x 410mm overall, two columns of 26 lines (probably lacking 7 lines at the top) written in a protogothic bookhand, rubric in red, with 3-line coloured initial (partially eroded), prickings visible in inner margins, containing text from the Epistles of St Jerome: from Epistle 45, St Jerome to Asella (left leaf and final four lines of right leaf) and from Epistle 47, St Jerome to Desiderius (most of right leaf), versos blank. An intriguing fragment with an attractive script, the use of the punctus flexus to denote minor pauses perhaps an indication of Carthusian origin.
