18th to 19th century Comprising twenty-four kozuka, a futakoromono, twelve tsuba, twelve fuchi-gashira, thirteen pairs of menuki and a mae-kanagu. The kozuka as follows: Shakudo nanako, a traveller passing an old willow tree by a stream, in gold and silver takazogan, Goto School, unsigned. Shakudo nanako, a courtier and servant in gold, silver and shakudo takazogan, Goto School, unsigned. Shibuichi, engraved with Hotei in a boat, in katakiri, unsigned; Shakudo nanako, richly inlaid with flowering prunus in gold and shakudo takazogan, unsigned. Shibuichi, inlaid with a seated foreigner in gold, silver, copper and shakudo takazogan, unsigned. Shakudo nanako, inlaid with ants and a pupa-case in gold, copper and shakudo takazogan, unsigned. Shakudo, a weaver's shuttle with gold and silver inlay, unsigned. Shakudo nanako, running boar and Autumn foliage in gold and shakudo takazogan, unsigned. Shakudo nanako, inlaid with a Buddhist invocation in silver takazogan, unsigned. Shakudo, in the form of a dragon and ken with gold and silver inlay, unsigned. Shibuichi, carved in shishiaibori with Tadamori capturing the oil thief, details in gold and shakudo, signed Soryuken Hideyuki. Shakudo nanako, carved and inlaid with a troop of monkeys in takabori and copper takazogan, signed Yoshichika. Shibuichi, carved in shishiaibori with the Wago-jin, signed Hamano Chikayuki with kao. Shakudo nanako, three running horses in gold and shakudo takazogan, signed Yamazaki Ichiga with kao. Shibuichi, small birds flying over wind-blown grasses in gold and silver takazogan, signed Noda Masaaki with kao. Brass, carved in shishiaibori with a bearded sage holding a feathered fan, signed Kaneyuki. Shibuichi, carved and inlaid with the 'Dream of Rosei', details in gold and silver, signed Nara Teruchika with kao. Silver, carved in shishiaibori with a sage holding a hossu, signed Joi with seal and inscribed Sanman shiza funi homon Shibuichi, carved in shishiaibori with a cockerel on a drum, signed Masayuki. Shibuichi, inlaid with wind-blown grasses by a stream, the moon to one side, signed Kita Takenori with kao. Silver, engraved in kebori with a fan and horse-whip, signed Seikansai Kawano Yoshikuni with kao. Shakudo nanako, inlaid with two birds and a berried tree, in gold, copper and shakudo takazogan, signed Tsurayuki with kao. Brass, carved and inlaid with the ghost of a woman, signed Tadayuki. The futakoromono (kozuka and kogai) of copper nanako, chickens in gold takazogan, signed Tsuji Masashige with kao. The tsuba as follows: Iron, of mokko form, carved and pierced in the manner of Hitotsuyanagi Tomoyoshi with a writhing dragon, signed Mito ju Hagiya Katsuhira with kao, 8.3cm (3¼in). Shibuichi, finely carved and inlaid in iroe-takazogan with aquatic creatures, including a whale in shakudo with a gilt eye, an octopus with gilt eyes in copper and various fish in shibuichi swimming among breaking waves with inlaid gilt spray drops, Omori School, unsigned, 7.3cm (2 7/8in). Shakudo ishime, carved in takabori and inlaid with Fujiyama towering over a pine copse, details in silver and gilt, signed Mitsutomi han, 7cm (2¾in). Shibuichi, inlaid in iroe takazogan with Jo and Uba on the beach at Takasago, signed Masayuki, gyonen shichi-ju-ichi-o (an old man of 71), 6.7cm (2 5/8in). Iron, carved and inlaid with Tawara Toda about to slay a dragon on a bridge, the reverse with birds flying past a pine copse, details of gold, silver and shakudo takazogan, signed Nara saku, 7.3cm (2 7/8in). Iron, of large size, inlaid on the hammered ground with a large crab in copper takazogan, its eyes and pincers of shakudo, signed with a kao,8.3cm (3¼in). Shakudo, the thick plate carved and pierced with an elaborate design of squirrels among grape vines, signed Kenkosai Kazutomo (Kazuaki), 7.3cm (2 7/8in).
