A COMPOSITE NORTH ITALIAN HUNTING HANGER PARTLY LATE 17TH CENTURY With curved single-edged blade double-edged towards the point, cut with a single fuller along the back-edge on each side and signed 'SCACCHVS' within the fuller on the outer side, iron guard with one-piece roped knuckle-guard and short downcurved rear-quillon, the quillon-block with applied downturned shell pierced and chiselled with flowers and foliage and with applied central plate with a brass backing-plate sandwiched between, plain iron lower ferrule with copper-braized join, spirally-grooved swelling dark horn grip with wire binding and heightened with steel pins (some pins recent), and pierced iron pommel-cap 31 5/8in. (80.3cm.) blade
