A DEMONSTRATION MODEL OF A CENTRE PILLAR CONDENSING BEAM ENGINE, circa 1810, the mahogany lagged, brass bound gunmetal single cylinder is 2½in bore x 6in stroke with lubricator and sits on a finished cast gunmetal box-bed bolted to the main tanked base. There is a jet condenser with injection valve, air pump, hot well with feed pump and condensing water lift pump. The beam is carried on a central fully turned pillar and carries parallel motion. The flywheel end of the beam drives the feed and lift pumps via connecting rods. The crankshaft is mounted separately on two twin columned bearing pedestals with arched plummer blocks and carries the hollow eccentric and flywheel. The engine is mounted on a pine table housing a stainless steel cooling water tank which takes return water from the feed pump bypass, hot well and condensing tank overflows. There is a fully riveted vertical gas fired copper multi-tube boiler with pressure and water gauges, clack filler, safety and main stop valves. A 'Bonds' hand feed pump mounted on a copper drip tray with drain through to the tank, 65¾in (166cm) high, 44in (112cm) wide Fußnoten Provenance: Property of The British Engineerium, Hove.
