(Cuba - Jewish) A Documented, Historical Photograph album of a Jewish family in Cuba, and their ties to Nazi Germany Provenance: James Melikian Collection Place Published: Cuba Date Published: c.1900-1960 Description: Over 380 photographs, chiefly b&w silver photographs, several colored or in color. Most captioned in Spanish. 29.4x27.8 cm (11¾x11"), photographs corner mounted onto album leaves, with cloth portfolio stamped "Cuba", included but now separate. Family photo album of a Jewish family in Cuba, documenting their lives, travels, and poignantly noting those who would die in concentration camps in Germany. The family were shareholders in a German casino in Cuba. Notably, they were also friends with a German individual who is documented as later helping usher Hitler into power, and the album records two additional Nazi individuals who "visited grandfather's house" and "fled to Brazil", to escape the consequences of their war crimes. An exceptional and well-preserved collection presenting the lives of this Cuban-Jewish family. Condition: Portfolio worn with joints splitting, several photographs loose or missing, leaves with minor foxing, some images slightly browning, mostly to edges; overall a very good or better collection. Item#: 359633 Headline: Cuban-Jewish family photo album, c.1900-60
