A DUTCH BURR WALNUT LONGCASE CLOCK KLAAS TROOST, AMSTERDAM. MID 18TH CENTURY The moulded arched hood with pierced soundfrets to front and sides, centred by a clasp with shell motif and C-scrolls, surmounted by giltwood figural finials, the hood with later brass mounted pilasters to the angles, arched moulded trunk door with gilt bronze lenticle depicting the Rape of Europa, the rectangular plinth with canted angles, the brass dial with engraved borders and gilt foliate cast spandrels to an engraved silvered and arcaded Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed Klaas Troost/AMSTELDAM , matted centre with engraved subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture above a shaped and engraved divided day of week sector with painted figures and Zodiac symbols, ringend winding holes, silvered alarm disc and pierced blued steel hands, the silvered and engraved arch with Dutch figures and ships around painted rolling moon, the eight day four pillar two train movement with anchor escapement, Dutch rack strike on two bells with pull repeat and alarm; pendulum, cranck key, door key, two large weights and one small weight 305 cm. high overall
