A Dutch carved mahogany musical longcase clock with automaton Jan Hendrik Kuhn, Amsterdam, circa 1785 The case of typical form, the arched hood with carved sound frets, surmounted by polychrome painted brass figural finials, the trunk door with gilt brass mount lenticle with flaming urn and a bird, the plinth base with fluted canted corners and on tapering feet. The arched brass dial polychrome painted with automaton figures of working craftsmen in a landscape, the brass and engraved matted centre with silvered plaque inscribed 1785 flanked by two winding holes and subsidiary second ring above, surrounded by the silvered chapter ring signed JNHK Kuhn Amsterdam . The large brass movement with a two train movement for the going train and automaton, the musical train wound to the side, with a 28 cm. long pinned brass barrel playing 16 tunes with 21 hammers on 14 bells, a brass plate inscribed with the tunes mounted to the reverse of the trunk door; with one large, two small weights, door key, winding key and pendulum 295 cm. high
