A DUTCH PEEP BOX AND A COLLECTION OF VUE D'OPTIQUE ENGRAVINGS MID 18TH CENTURY The brass-mounted oak case shaped as a Dutch miniature cabinet with C-scroll and foliate carved cornice and moulded doors, the cabinet with a hinged folding mechanism extending its length three times when the lid has been removed, the interior with a pair of 16 cm. diam. lenses and rear slots for the slides 57 cm. high x 47 cm. wide x 29 cm. deep (circa 110 cm. long when extended) Together with a collection of circa 170 Vue d'Optique handcoloured and bodycolour copper-engravings (including seventy-two day/night Vue d'Optique engravings) depicting various cityscapes, parkviews, interiors, palaces and harbour-scenes This collection of Vue d'Optique engravings comprises: Seventy-two day-and-night scenes with pierced plates applied with coloured paper; Eight plates depicting interiors; Seventeen plates depicting various palaces; Nineteen parkviews; Eight sea-scapes/harbour scenes and Fifty-five various cityviews including London, Copenhagen, Paris, St. Petersburg, Vienna, Florence, Lisbon, Dublin, Dresden, Rome, Venice, Berlin, Utrecht, Augsburg, Athens and Amsterdam
