A DUTCH WALNUT AND BURR-WALNUT LONGCASE CLOCK WITH 'SCHEEPJESMECHANIEK' (AUTOMATON SHIPS) GERRIT KNIP EN ZOON, AMSTERDAM. THIRD QUARTER 18TH CENTURY The case of typical form, the trunkdoor and plinth applied with later marquetry, cast brass C-scroll lenticle mount, on claw feet, the brass dialplate with an engraved silvered chapterring signed GERRIT KNIP EN ZOON AMSTELDAM , matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring with date aperture, sectors for month and day of week engraved with zodiac symbols and painted and engraved moonphase, silvered alarm setting disc and steel hands, above a recessed polychrome painted scene depicting various ships and a harbour scene with the city of Amsterdam beyond and eight rocking ships in front, the corners above with figures emblematic of trade, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement, alarm and Dutch-strike on two bells; pendulum, two brass alarm weights, two large brass weights, crank key, door key 255 cm. high
