A DUTCH WALNUT AND BURR-WALNUT MUSICAL LONGCASE CLOCK JOHAN BERNARDUS VRIJTHOFF, 'S-GRAVENHAGE. THIRD QUARTER 18TH CENTURY The case of typical form, the hood surmounted by large carved giltwood figures of Atlas (with separate carved globe) and a pair of horn-blowing angels, the trunkdoor and base with line inlay around the edges, bronze lenticle mount depicting Father Time, the 37 cm. (14.6 inch) arched brass dial with painted moonphase, engraved silvered selection ring above for the twelve tunes, the corners with gilt-brass foliate and C-scroll spandrels, the upper corners with silvered selection rings for Slaan/Niet Slaan and Speelen/Niet Speelen, silvered Roman and Arabic chapterring, the centre engraved with scrolling foliage and with apertures for the silvered seconds dial with date aperture, month and day of week, blued steel hands and pointers, silvered signature plaque above VI signed BERNARDES FRYTHOF S'HAGE , the brass six pillar three train eight-day movement with anchor escapement, Dutch strike on two bells, the musical movement mounted horizontally above the movement, the 31.5 cm. long pinned brass barrel playing twelve tunes via twenty-five hammers on fourteen bells; three brass weights, pendulum, crank key and door key 298 cm. high
