The content is too great to list in detail but includes commission and discharge documents, regimental orders and numerous letters, cuttings, maps, passes etc., in all a fascinating collection.Percy Edmond Lindredge Elgee served in the Boer War in the ranks of the Gordon Highlanders and was present at the disastrous battle of Magersfontein. He was wounded by a gunshot in the right arm at Doom Kop, near Johannesburg on 29th May, 1900, the same day that he received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He was seconded to the Gold Coast Regiment, W.A.F.F., in September 1905, and served with them during the operations in Togoland, 7th to 26th August, 1914, when he commanded the Kratch column. He was appointed Park Commander at the School of Military Aeronautics R.F.C. in July, 1917, and 2 months later as Brigade Major, 2nd in command, Officer Cadet Unit R.F.C. at Hastings. Dogged by ill-health from his service in Africa, Major Elgee retired on 19th May, 1923.
