A FINE AND VERY RARE ARCHAISTIC YELLOW JADE COVERED VASE
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
A FINE AND VERY RARE ARCHAISTIC YELLOW JADE COVERED VASE QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795) Of compressed form, the vase is delicately carved in shallow relief to the body with four panels enclosing kui dragons on each side, below a band of leiwen at the shoulder, surmounted by a waisted neck adorned with upright lappets and flanked by a pair of elephant-head handles. The cover with straight sides has a tapering shoulder carved with further kui dragons, surmounted by an oval finial that is edged with a rope-twist design. The stone is of an attractive chestnut yellow tone with concentrated areas of russet inclusions and milky speckling. 8 in. (20.2 cm.) overall height
