A FINE CASED .500 (3IN. BLACK POWDER EXPRESS) ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE HAMMER RIFLE BY BOSS & CO., 73 ST. JAMES'S STREET, LONDON, SERIAL NO. 2853 FOR 1872 With browned twist barrels signed in full on the matt rib, bead fore-sight, rear-sight of one standing and three folding leaves graduated to 250 yards and each with platinum-inlaid centre-line, case-hardened border and scroll engraved action and signed bolted back-action locks, the former with carved fences, well figured 14 3/8in. (36.5cm.) stock with chequered grip and fore-end, case-hardened iron mounts engraved en suite, silver escutcheon engraved with a crest and motto, sling eyes, and retaining much original finish throughout, London proof marks, in original lined and fitted leather case with some accessories including two bullet-moulds, one for conical bullet, the other for ball, each serial numbered to the rifle, horn-handled Hawksley powder-measure, and large Hawksley oil bottle, the lid with Boss & Co. trade label (one case-strap incomplete) 29in. (73.6cm.) barrels
