A FINE GEORGE III OAK TABLE CIRCA 1805, PROBABLY DESIGNED BY JAMES WYATT With slightly rounded rectangular green and grey mottled marble top edged with brass molding cast with quatrefoils, the molded panelled frieze carved with quatrefoils flanking The Peachy Crest within quatrefoil border above molded arcaded skirting, the sides similar, the back finished, on cluster column legs carved with deep Gothic arches headed by quatrefoils and with conforming molded feet - 61in. (152.5cm.) wide, 30½in. (76cm.) deep, 36½in. (91cm.) high PROVENANCE Sir James Peachy 1st Lord Selsey, West Dean Park, Chichester, West Sussex Sold in these Rooms, 25 October 1986, lot 148 The Jacobean house at West Dean, built by Jon Lewkenor in 1622, was remodelled between 1805 and 1808 by James Wyatt The mate to this table can be seen in a photograph taken at West Dean in 1895 and reproduced in the catalogue to Christie's auction, 2-6 June 1986, vol. I, p. 489. It would appear that both tables were supplied during Wyatt's remodeling and that they were probably designed by him.
