A finely detailed and carved early 19th Century French prisoner-of-war bone model of the French 120-gun ship 'Montague' With gold banded and bound masts, yards with stun's'l booms, standing and running rigging, carved female figurehead, anchors, catheads, capstan, bitts, belaying rails, companionways, ship's bell with canopy over, gratings, deck light, deck rings, two ship's boats with thwarts, upper deck guns in carriages and other details, the planked and pinned hull, with freely carved stern and quarter galleries, bulwarks, hair rails and balustrading is mounted on two bone supports on a pinned and planked bone base with carved bone and wood railings. Glazed case with legend (later) -- 15 x 19in (38.1 x 48.3cm) " French Ship Montague 120-guns, previously known as the 'Cote d'Or', the 'Montague' became Vice Admiral Villaret Joyeuse's Flagship in 1793. She fought gallantly in the Battle of the Glorious First of June, 1794, and in 1795, under her new name 'Penple', took part in the action against Lord Bridport, off Groix".
