A FRENCH DRESS SWORD WITH GILT-BRASS HILT MADE FOR A CHILD BY COULAUX FRERES, MANUFACTURE ROYALE DE KLINGENTHAL, CIRCA 1820 With slender blade of hollow triangular section etched gilt ornament against a blued ground over one third of its length and with etched signature at the forte, gilt-brass hilt comprising boat-shell guard, short quillons, knuckle-guard and globular pommel each decorated in low relief with shells and scrolls against a punched ground, and spirally fluted gilt-brass wire-bound grip, in associated black-leather-covered scabbard with brass locket (chape missing); together with A FRENCH SMALL-SWORD MADE FOR A CHILD, third quarter of the 18th century, with slender double-edged blade of flattened oval section changing to flattened diamond and etched with scrollwork, brass hilt including double shell-guard cast and chased with scrollwork, and wire-bound grip Respectively 28¾in. (73cm.) and 26½in. (67.3cm.) blades (2)
