A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY SIDE CABINET
OF EMPIRE STYLE, LATE 19TH CENTURY
A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY SIDE CABINET OF EMPIRE STYLE, LATE 19TH CENTURY The arched pediment surmounted by a bronze bust of Napoleon with ormolu laurel crown after Antoine Denis Chaudet, the circular clockcase with ormolu bezel and white enamel Roman dial with pierced and chased ormolu hands, surrounded by the Zodiac symbols, twin-train movement with silk suspension stamped Vincenti & Cie . The frieze applied with classical masks and ribbon-tied floral swags, above a band with anthemia, the panelled door centring on a lozenge panel with stars and a classical maiden, flanked by canted angels with with sphinx monopodia pilasters, the sides with further lozenge panels centring on stars and lyres, the plinth base on ormolu bun feet 212 cm. high x 89 cm. wide x 39 cm. deep
