A GEORGE II PARCEL-GILT PADOUK CABINET-ON-STAND ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS CHIPPENDALE 1755-1760 The rectangular upper stage surmounted by a canopy with imbricated roof with rockwork and foliage finial on a canted rectangular support with paired columns, the corners with foliate finials, above an arched foliate-carved cornice and arched glazed door with scrolled acanthus concave arch formed of addorsed C-scrolls, with flowerhead-wrapped columns, enclosing three shaped padouk-veneered shelves with open fretwork interior divisions, flanked by glazed side sections surmounted by pagoda canopies with foliate finials and C-scroll supports above a pierced fretwork gallery, above a door with geometric bead astragals, the sides with conforming glazed end-panel and enclosing two shaped padouk-veneered shelves, the stand with blind fretwork frieze, enclosing three mahogany-lined drawers, the central drawer with a blue baize-lined slide and two divisions enclosing four adjustable divisions, on palm-wrapped square legs emerging from rockwork, with shaped foliate angle brackets, on rockwork plinths, originally oil-gilt, now water-gilt 111½ in. (283.5 cm.) high; 64½ in. (163.5 cm.) wide; 26¼ in. (66.5 cm.) deep
