CIRCA 1784 CASE: brass handle and triple brass-bound pads to the top, brass mouldings to the front door, silk-backed brass side frets, on brass bracket feet DIAL : 8 in. wide brass dial with engraved floral spandrels to white enamel chapter disc signed 'Ellicott/London', further floral engraving to white enamel subsidiaries to the arch for strike/silent and pendulum regulation, blued steel hands MOVEMENT : five ring-turned pillars, twin line fusees, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell, shouldered back plate with engraved border and signed 'Ellicott/London', front plate stamped 'J THWAITES/1153', seatboard also stamped '1153'; pendulum, winding key, case key 17 in. (43 cm.) high, handle down; 11¾ in. (30 cm.) wide; 8 in. (20 cm.) deep
