A GEORGE III IRISH SILVER PRESENTATION SALVER, maker's mark of Bergin & Macklin, Dublin, 1818, shaped circular, on four lion's paw supports with winged and bearded join, the field flat chased and engraved with broad frieze composed of from near to far ground, four rocaille enclosed male masks (two bearded) flanked by foliage, with floral or fruit swags between, each mask headed by broad spray on matted ground, one fruited grapevine, one floral, one fruited and one with flame filled urn, with molded and fluted border, the shaped rim applied with matted rocaille shells, the underside engraved THIS SALVER, A SMALLER ONE, AND A BREADBASKET WERE PRESENTED TO DOCTOR THOMSON IN 1818. BY , followed by 110 engraved names-- 20½in. (52cm.) wide, 62.5oz.
