A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SECRETAIRE-CABINET Attributed to Thomas Chippendale The arched rectangular double-breakfront cornice with dentilled frieze flanked by acanthus and pine-cone finials, the arched glazed door with moulded-astragal glazing patterns and stylised floral sprays to the spandrels, with pearled and fluted paterae to the lower spandrels flanked by ogee panels with trailing laurel suspended from rings and surmounted by a pearled oval floral patera, the glazed door enclosing a plain interior with later glass adjustable shelves, the base section with a double-breakfront rectangular moulded top above a breakfront frieze drawer with central floral patera swagged with ribbon-tied husks and enclosing a fitted interior with mahogany adjustable divides and a green baize-lined writing-surface flanked by stop-fluted panels and above three central drawers flanked by a pair of cut-cornered panelled doors with fluted and pearled paterae to the spandrels, each enclosing a plain interior with grooves for adjustable folio-divides, the inverted breakfront moulded plinth on splayed ogee bracket feet, the finials probably original, the spigot of one finial replaced 88¾ in. (225.5 cm.) high; 44¾ in. (114 cm.) wide; 22 in. (56 cm.) deep
