A GEORGE III SILVER-GILT CUP AND COVER MARK OF JOHN EMES LONDON, 1805 Vase shaped, the pedestal foot with a stiff leaf band, the lower section of the body with further band of foliage and two reeded handles with mask terminals, engraved on one side with an inscription, the other applied with a coat-of-arms with earl's coronet above, each within a branch and berry border, with a fruiting vine border, the detachable cover with vine finial, marked on foot and on cover rim, the finial apparently unmarked 16½ in. (42 cm.) high 160 oz. (4,965 gr.) The incription reads: 'To THE R T HON BLE George Henry Earl of Euston, LORD LIEUTENANT & CUSTOS ROTOLORUM of the County of Suffolk, THIS TESTIMONY of Respectful Attachment IS PRESENTED BY THE OFFICERS OF THE WEST SUFFOLK REGIMENT of Militia. 1st March 1808 The arms are those of Fitzroy, for George Henry Earl of Euston and later 4th Duke of Grafton, (1760-1844)
