A GEORGE III SILVER-MOUNTED HOOF SNUFF-BOX APPARENTLY UNMARKED, CIRCA 1800 The hinged cover engraved with foliage centring a coat-of-arms, the edges chased to simulate hair 2¾ in. (7 cm.) wide The arms are those of Alexander of Ahilly, co. Donegal. It is probable that the box was commissioned by Lesley Alexander (1760-1820), who was married to Anna Simpson or one of their three elder sons John Alexander (1782-1854), James Alexander (d.1861) or Lesely Alexander (1789-1852).
