A GERMAN AND AN AUSTRIAN HUNTING HANGER Each mid-19th Century The first with straight double-edged blade with etched hunting scene and strapwork involving the word 'Amitié' (all rubbed), an etched running wolf mark, and the date 1670, the brass hilt with short straight quillons and very small shell, cap-pommel, and natural staghorn grip, the metal parts with borders of repeated pellets, in wooden leather-covered scabbard (damaged), with brass locket and chape with wide pocket for the spear-pointed bodkin, all decorated en suite with the sword; the second with straight single-edged hollow-ground blade, etched on each face with foliated scrollwork (rubbed) and 'Wien', the iron hilt with short straight animal-hoof shaped quillons, small downturned shell with a deer-hunting scene, cap-pommel engraved with foliage, and natural staghorn grip, in original leather-covered scabbard with iron locket and chape chased with motifs of the chase and foliage, and with a side-pocket for a by-knife (missing) 20in.
