Property of a descendant of William Beckford & The Dukes of HamiltonA German gilt-brass and mother-of-pearl inlaid wood casket, Bavaria, circa 1725 the cover with an inlaid cypher with a princely crown, the later fitted velvet-lined interior with four Japanese export drum-form boxes containing counters and a scorer, the Japanese lacquer, 19th century17cm. high, 19cm. wide, 6.5cm. deep; 6¾in., 7½in., 2½in.Condition reportIn overall good country house condition. Overall with minor scratches and chipping to edges consistent with age and use. One moulding (approx. 9.5cm long) detached to the front, which would benefit from being re-attached. Some mouldings missing to edges of the casket: one small to the bottom left of the front, one small to the lower half of the left corner on the front, one (approx. 5.5cm long) to the right side and one small to the back on the left handside. The inside with two veneer small losses, one just above the 'lock' in the front, and one on the back left handside. The front, left side and back floral scenes and one roundel on the top missing some gilt-brass edgings. The red velvet inside in good condition, with some minor signs of wear, especially to edges of velvet on the reverse of the lid and to edges around the boxes. The lacquer boxes and scorer in good condition. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The
