A GERMAN (NUREMBERG) BLACK AND WHITE HALF-ARMOUR
A GERMAN (NUREMBERG) BLACK AND WHITE HALF-ARMOUR THIRD QUARTER 16TH CENTURY Comprising burgonet with one-piece skull rising to a prominent roped comb and with integral pointed peak struck with a Nuremberg mark, single neck-plate with turned roped edge and struck with a maker's mark, and hinged ear-pieces each pierced with small circular holes and shaped to match the neck-plate, almain-collar with main-plate and two neck-plates to the front and rear, the front main-plate struck with the Nuremberg mark and the rear main-plate with a maker's mark 'W', and spaulders of six plates each, cuirass comprising three-piece back-plate struck near the neck with a Nuremberg mark and with flanged and shaped single culet, and breast-plate with medial ridge rising to a prominent point, movable gussets, prominent roped turns at the neck and arms, and struck near the neck with a further Nuremberg mark, skirt of three plates, knee-length tassets of seven plates each, the lowest deeper and bluntly pointed, and elbow-length fingered gauntlets, the main edges turned and mostly roped, the surfaces throughout with recessed bands and borders, all bright against a black ground, on a clothed mannequin standing on a wooden base
