A GERMAN SILVER-GILT CHRISTENING CUP by Hans Beutmuller (Rosenberg, 4055), Nuremburg, circa 1600 On circular spreading base embossed with a rim of strapwork and foliage on a matted ground, the stem applied with chased silver foliate ornament and gilt mask brackets, the cup embossed with foliage, strapwork and floral swags on a matted ground and chased with two Biblical scenes, the Annunciation and St. Christopher with Christ Child, each in oval cartouche, the rim engraved with an inscription - 18.3 cm high (257 gr) The inscription reads "Anno 1602. Den 12 Februarij, ein 1/2 Stund vor ein Ischt dess kleinern Zaigerers, vor Mittag; ward Christoff Gabriel des Edlen und Vesten Jeremiasen Kind Hoff und der Ehrntugen reichen Frauen Katharina geborner Musslin von Eschenau Hucher Sohn geboren und durch Christoffen Loffel Holtz von Kolberg. Auss der heiligen Tauf erhaben der verehrt dass kleine Geschirrle seinem lieben demten zu christlicher Gedechtnis mit Wunsch und gottliches Segens. Amen."
