A GERMAN SMALL-SWORD, AND AN ENGLISH SMALL-SWORD THE FIRST CIRCA 1770, THE SECOND CIRCA 1740 The first with colichemarde blade of hexagonal section etched and gilt (gilding worn) on each face of the forte with a trophy of arms, a floral vase, and Cupid by an altar supporting two burning hearts above a panel inscribed 'Amoris Vincula Casta', the hilt entirely of ormolu, with boatshell guard (rear quillon replaced), cast and chased throughout with rocailles ; the second with blade of hollow-triangular section etched almost to the point with running foliage, and at the base with panels of scrolls framing two cartouches each inscribed 'Je Vous Entends A Venir, Vous Avez Des Sabots', and blackened iron mourning hilt, the wooden grip bound with twisted horsehair 31in.
