Lapis specimens of this size and depth of colour are extremely rare 42kg This piece was collected during an expedition in 2011 from the famous Sar-isang mine, Badakhshan. This mine has been worked from antiquity and produces the best lapis Lazuli in the world. The Lapis Lazuli found in the tomb of Tutankhamun and the Royal treasures from UR came from Sar-iSang. Specimens of this size are very rarely found and even rarer to be of such fine quality as most of the best material has been mined out in antiquity
