A Great War 1917 ‘Battle of Passchendaele’ M.M. group of five awarded to Sergeant D. G. Wyatt, Rifle Brigade Military Medal, G.V.R. (1929 Sjt: D. G. Wyatt. 9/Rif: Bde:); 1914-15 Star (1929 Pte. D. G. Wyatt, Rif. Brig.); British War and Victory Medals (1929 C.Sjt. D. G. Wyatt. Rif. Brig.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension (6905205 Sjt. D. G. Wyatt. (M.M.) Rif. Brig.) mounted as worn, good very fine (5) £400-500 Footnote M.M. London Gazette 28 January 1918. David George Wyatt was born in 1889 and attested for the Rifle Brigade at Ipswich on 4 February 1907; after a spell at the Depot he was posted to the 4th Battalion. He served with the Rifle Brigade during the Great War on the Western Front from 20 December 1914, and was awarded the Military Medal whilst serving with the 9th (Service) Battalion in 1917, most probably for gallantry at Inverness Copse and Glencorse Wood in August 1917 during the Battle of Passchendaele. Advanced Colour Sergeant and Company Quartermaster Sergeant, Wyatt subsequently qualified as a Sergeant Cook on 19 September 1924, and served as Master Cook at the Rifle Depot at Winchester for a number of years. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, with a gratuity, per Army Order 357 of November 1927, and was discharged on 3 February 1934. He was subsequently appointed Commissionaire Attendant to the Mayor of Winchester. Sold with various original documents, including the recipient’s Qualifying Certificate as a Sergeant Cook; the recipient’s Army Certificate of Education, Second Class, dated 29 April 1926; the recipient’s Regular Army Certificate of Service Book; Soldiers’ Service and Pay Book; and Certificate of Discharge; various letters of recommendation; three personal letters written by the recipient home from the Front; and various other research.
